Miller Stores’ Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil is a light, versatile option suitable for everyday cooking, baking, and sautéing. Our unrefined process helps retain its natural vitamins and delicate flavor. Perfect for those seeking a heart-healthy oil with a mild aroma.
Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil — Unrefined, Pressed in Small Batches
Cold pressed sunflower oil, crushed from whole sunflower seed and filtered through cloth. It is the mildest of the oils we press, which makes it the usual choice for people who want an unrefined oil without a strong flavour of its own. Golden rather than water-clear, because it has not been bleached.
How we make it
Cleaned, dehulled sunflower seed is pressed cold at low speed so the barrel stays cool, then rested and cloth-filtered. Sunflower oil is high in polyunsaturated fat, which is exactly why the unrefined version needs to be treated as a fresh product — those fats are the first to oxidise when an oil is kept too long or heated too hard.
What goes in, what stays out
One ingredient: sunflower seed. No refined oil blended in, no TBHQ or other synthetic antioxidant, no bleaching clay, no added vitamins. What you smell when you open it is sunflower seed, faintly.
How to use it
- Everyday cooking where a neutral oil is wanted
- Shallow frying and sautéing at moderate heat
- Baking and batters, where a strong oil would intrude
- Salad dressings and mayonnaise
- Cooking for children, who often object to stronger oils
How to store it
Cool, dark, tightly capped, and use within about four to six months. Sunflower is the least stable of our oils because of its polyunsaturated profile — buy the smaller bottle if you cook with it occasionally. Do not leave it beside the stove.

Frequently asked questions
Is cold pressed sunflower oil suitable for deep frying?
It is not the best choice. Unrefined sunflower is high in polyunsaturated fat, which degrades faster under sustained high heat. Use it for shallow frying and sautéing, and use groundnut or sesame oil when you need to deep fry.
Why is your sunflower oil golden rather than clear?
Refined sunflower oil is bleached to near-colourless. Ours is only cloth-filtered, so it keeps the natural golden tint of the seed. Clarity in supermarket oil is a processing artefact, not a quality marker.
Which is healthier, sunflower or groundnut oil?
Neither is simply better; they differ. Sunflower is higher in polyunsaturated fat and vitamin E, groundnut higher in monounsaturated fat and more heat-stable. Most South Indian kitchens keep both and use them for different jobs.
How quickly should I finish a bottle?
Within four to six months of opening, sooner than our other oils. There is no synthetic antioxidant in it to extend that, which is the trade-off for it being unrefined.
Does it have a smell?
A faint one, of sunflower seed. Much milder than groundnut, sesame or mustard oil, which is the main reason people choose it.
Why does Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil foam when it is heated?
Because there is no anti-foaming agent in it. Refined oils have silicone-based additives that stop this; unrefined oil does not, so it froths, particularly in humid weather. It is a sign of what is absent. If it bothers you, drop a small ball of tamarind into the hot oil for a minute and the foam settles.
Does Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil contain trans fats or cholesterol?
No hydrogenation is used, so there is no industrially produced trans fat, and no plant oil contains cholesterol. Those two things are true of any genuinely unrefined, mechanically pressed oil, ours included.
Is Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil filtered, and why is it sometimes cloudy?
It is filtered through cloth only, never through bleaching clay. That leaves fine particles of the seed or kernel behind, so the oil can look cloudy and drop a little sediment. Perfectly clear oil has usually been through a refining step.
What makes Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil from Miller Stores different?
It is pressed in small batches in the shop rather than refined in a plant and shipped in drums. Nothing is bleached, deodorised or blended in, and there is no synthetic antioxidant to stretch the shelf life - so it is fresher, it smells of what it came from, and it is meant to be used rather than stored.
